How Is Tile Shipped? Understanding LTL Freight Delivery for Tile Orders

Why Tile Requires Specialized Shipping

Tile is one of the most challenging products to ship. It is dense and heavy — a single box of 12x12 inch ceramic tiles can weigh 40–60 pounds. It is also fragile — porcelain and ceramic tiles crack under impact. Standard parcel carriers like UPS, FedEx, or USPS are simply not designed to handle the weight and fragility of tile shipments safely.
This is why all reputable online tile retailers use LTL freight carriers for tile orders — and why tile shipping is inherently more expensive than shipping lighter products.

What Is LTL Freight?

LTL (less-than-truckload) freight shipping is a method where your shipment occupies a portion of a larger truck alongside other customers' shipments. Unlike full truckload shipping (FTL), LTL is practical for residential orders that don't fill an entire truck.

LTL freight carriers specialize in handling heavy, palletized commercial shipments — which is exactly what a tile order requires. The tiles are secured on pallets, wrapped, and loaded onto trucks designed for heavy cargo, dramatically reducing the risk of damage compared to standard parcel services.

Once your order ships, you will receive tracking information by email — including the carrier's tracking number and contact details to schedule a delivery window if needed.
